MEET LA CAÑADA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

Located in the city of La Cañada Flintridge, CA, La Cañada Unified School District is a small yet high-achieving district that educates around 4,000 students in three elementary schools, a middle school, and a comprehensive high school. Both La Cañada High School and La Cañada Elementary School have been named National Blue Ribbon schools, the highest honor in the nation that any public school can receive. Additionally, 98% of students enroll in college after graduation, and over 80% are at least proficient in math and reading.

GIFTED & TALENTED PROGRAMS

La Cañada's GATE program allows intellectually gifted students to seek even more learning opportunities through countless enrichment services. LCUSD identifies gifted and talented students at the end of third grade, and those who score in the 98th percentile and above are invited to join the program. In total, GATE students make up around 13% of the total student body.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT

La Cañada Unified School District offers one of the most comprehensive ELD programs for students learning English as a second language. All ELD teachers throughout the district collaborate with each other to generate proven strategies that will help to further students' language acquisition; the district also has a master plan designed so ELD students can learn English within three to five years.

 
 

COLLEGE & CAREER READINESS

Most LCUSD students go on to pursue rewarding careers or a college education after graduation. In fact, 80% of the student body takes the SAT test (and often score above state and national averages), while 98% end up enrolling in post-secondary schools. 

SPECIALIZED PROGRAMS

COMPUTER SCIENCE

La Cañada High School offers four courses in computer science, including Advanced Placement Java HP. Students can learn the basics of technology and coding, which will help them succeed should they choose to pursue a career in STEM.

CAREER & TECHNICAL EDUCATION

LCUSD students can take advantage of a variety of CTE-focused electives, so they can explore potential career paths before they graduate. Top electives include commercial photography, graphic design, student body leadership, culinary arts, retail marketing, and production. Students can also serve as an assistant for a teacher of their choice for elective credit.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT

Enrolling in Advanced Placement (AP) courses allows students to earn college credit before graduation. Luckily, La Cañada High School has a broad selection of AP classes in language arts, sciences, history, and so much more. AP Language and Composition, AP Literature, AP Calculus, AP Biology, and AP US History are just a few options available.
