MEET GLENDALE UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

Centered in the city of Glendale, CA, Glendale Unified School District educates nearly 26,000 students in 20 elementary schools, four middle schools, three high schools, one magnet high school, one continuation high school, and a developmental center for multi-handicapped students, in addition to numerous child-care centers. Nine of Glendale's schools have been named National Blue Ribbon schools, the highest designation by the US Department of Education. A total of 26 schools have been named California Distinguished Schools, and 17 of the district's 18 Title I schools have been named Title I Achieving Schools.

GIFTED & TALENTED PROGRAMS

GATE programs support intellectually gifted students by providing faster-paced learning environments and unique enrichment activities. Students are tested and identified, provided additional information and resources, and encouraged to participate in additional activities and conventions.

MAGNET SCHOOLS

Glendale's magnet schools offer theme-based educational courses in academically and culturally rich environments. Magnet options include Computer Science, Advanced Technology, International Foreign Language Academy of Glendale (FLAG), Visual and Performing Arts, and STEAM.

GUSD strives to ensure that all students are adequately prepared for life after graduation, whether that's a rewarding career or continuing education in college. In either case, schools work with students to develop a post-graduation objective, as well as courses of action to help meet the goal.

FLAG DUAL LANGUAGE IMMERSION

The Foreign Language Academies of Glendale offers dual language immersion in seven languages, starting in kindergarten. There are 90:10 and 50:50 immersion options, but in both cases, the target language is taught through content, not separate study. Languages include Armenian, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish.

CAREER & TECHNICAL EDUCATION

GUSD's industry-aligned technical programs help students to acquire real-life experience and practical knowledge in a variety of fields of study, allowing them to better explore their college and career goals. CTE enables students to gain competitive academic preparation to compete in the global marketplace post-graduation.

EARLY COLLEGE ACADEMY

GUSD partners with Glendale Community College to offer students the ability to complete up to two years of college for free before graduating from high school. Students begin ECA in 10th grade and attend classes taught by college professors at Hoover High School. The program is open to all GUSD students.
