There’s plenty to do in Sun Valley! Three recreation centers offer a wealth of opportunities for activities, such as sports, exercise classes, music and art courses, after-school activities, and senior recreation programs. Together, the Sun Valley Recreation Center, the Fernangeles Recreation Center, and the Stonehurst Recreation Center offer sports fields for baseball, softball, soccer, and football, lighted courts for basketball, tennis, and volleyball, plenty of picnicking areas and playgrounds, two amphitheatres, swimming pools, auditoriums, gyms and fitness centers, and even special events throughout the year.

Sun Valley is also home to the Theodore Payne Foundation for Wild Flowers and Native Plants, which is dedicated to helping Californians discover the wonders of native flora throughout the Valley. You’ll also find a public library right here in town.

Outdoor Exploration

It’s not hard to get outside in Sun Valley! You can climb right into the Verdugo Mountains at the nearby Verdugo Mountain Park or the La Tuna Canyon Park, where you’ll find incredible trail access into the steep upper reaches of the mountains. All the hard work yields big rewards—incredible mountain views over the city. The La Tuna Canyon Park also features a beautiful “Grotto” formed from a steep-walled canyon overhung with large trees that join to produce a spectacular waterfall.

Equestrian Culture

Sun Valley calls to horse-lovers. It features both small and large estates, many of which have been zoned as horse property and offer huge acreage for those who want to live where they can saddle up and romp right in their own backyard. The Sun Valley Chamber of Commerce has provided numerous horse trails throughout the area, and the Los Angeles Children’s Riding Center is available for young riders who want to get out and explore.
